Exotic Kenya Safaris

Day 1: Arrival at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport
Upon Arrival at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. After clearing customs and immigration formalities, you are met and transferred to The Stanley Hotel in the city centre. Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, has grown since 1899 from a simple Uganda Railway construction camp named “enairobi” in Maasai language (meaning a place of cold water in reference to the cold waters of the Nairobi River) to the modern center for commercial, financial, manufacturing and tourist activity in East Africa. It replaced Mombasa as Kenya’s capital in 1907 and became a city in 1950. Today, its population is well over 1.5 million. Both the Great North Road (Cairo to Cape Town) and the Trans-African Highway (Mombasa to Lagos) pass through Nairobi. Overnight: The Sarova Stanley Hotel - Nairobi on Bed and Breakfast Basis. Meals: Bed & Breakfast

Day 2: depart Nairobi
After breakfast and a special safari briefing, depart Nairobi in private minibuses (Toyota or Nissan) fitted with a telescopic roof hatch to facilitate photography, with your driver and drive to the equator for a short ceremony, then continue to the base of Mt. Kenya and the incomparable Mt. Kenya Safari Club, made famous by the conservation efforts of William Holden and Stephanie Powers. The balance of the day is at leisure to enjoy the beautifully manicured grounds and gardens, lounge around the pool, go horseback riding, play tennis or visit the excellent endangered animal orphanage established by Stephanie Powers. This truly is one of the most beautiful places in Kenya. Please note: In the evening, smart casual dress is in order. Sportswear including tee shirts, shorts and tennis shoes are not acceptable. Overnight: Mount Kenya Safari Club Meals: Lunch, Dinner & Breakfast

Day 3: Depart Mount Kenya Safari Club
Depart Mount Kenya Safari Club after breakfast and drive to the dramatic Aberdare Mountains and the Treetops, the famous tree hotel. Please note: One overnight bag per person is allowed at Treetops. The balance of your luggage will be stored at the Outspan Hotel and collected the next morning before departing for Lake Nakuru. The Aberdare National Park was created in 1950 to protect the forested slopes and moors of the Aberdare Mountains. The Park is home to elephant, lion, rhino, leopard and the beautiful but elusive bongo antelope. Due to the area's high rainfall and the dense forest game driving here is tricky and not particularly productive. Overnight: Aberdare’s Treetops Lodge Meals: Lunch, Dinner & Breakfast

Day 4: drive to Lake Nakuru National Park

The Kenyan Rift Valley is a section of 6 000 km rift system which stretches from the Dead Sea in the Middle East, south through the Red Sea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi and into Mozambique. Major geological upheavals caused a series of lakes in Kenya's Rift Valley and Lake Nakuru is of the soda variety and when conditions are right up to two million lesser and greater flamingos feed around its shores. Baboon Cliff is a well-known spot from which to view the dazzling fringe of pink around the lake's shores. Lake Nakuru was declared a national park in 1961 and it now covers an area of some 200 km² and is a Black & White rhino sanctuary. You have an excellent chance of seeing buffalo, Rothschild giraffe, White Rhino and plenty of baboon and warthog, waterbuck and impala. Lion, leopard and black rhino are frequently seen. This is the traditional land of the Masai people, nomadic herders who choose a traditional lifestyle and who are permitted to graze their cattle in the area. The park's habitats include the forests along the banks of the Mara and Talek Rivers, acacia forests and open savannah. These various habitats are home to a great variety of game including lion, leopard, cheetah, zebra, wildebeest (gnu), giraffe, buffalo, jackal, eland, gazelles, impala and elephant. This is the only place in Kenya where topi are common and you will see them standing sentinel on old termite mounds.
